Jacksdale, Nottingham

This project in Jacksdale, Nottinghamshire involves a single-storey rear extension and dormer loft conversion. The client wanted to add two additional bedrooms and increase the habitable space at ground level, while incorporating their love for contemporary architecture and home makeover shows into the design.

The concept design features a modern twist on the ancient Japanese art of charring timber, called "Shou Sugi Ban," which provides a long-lasting, black timber cladding. The use of timber cladding helps to soften the contemporary design and is well-suited to the rural area.

The proposal includes large amounts of glazing, including corner glazing, to take advantage of the stunning views of the Nottinghamshire countryside to the rear of the property. Cedar cladding has also been incorporated to provide a contrasting material palette.

Concept designs were completed in Winter 2022, and the project is now progressing into the planning, construction, and completion phases in 2023.
